Death To Screen Time

Whats up guys! I CANT stand how much screens take up our lives. It's kind of ironic since I'm writing this on my computer right now but as my parents say "Do as I say not as I do". Plus I like to think this is actually engaging my brain.

A big issue I actually have is screen time with the kiddos. I have started noticing it more and more during my social media detox. Since I have been able to reverse from Zombie Mode back to a being a "normal" human being I notice so many people around me are just staring at their phones or tablets. Our kids are no exception.

This isn't to say I don't use my phone anymore but when I'm on it I am bettering myself. I will throw on a podcast completely in Swedish or do my daily Duolingo lessons trying to become the Polyglot that I strive to be. Or plan my next DIY project and find tips and tricks to make something really great. So if our kids were to be learning something rather than playing Roblox or watching these stupid challenge videos on Youtube, I would have ZERO issue with them being on their tablets. We have had to put a limit on how often they can be on them or what they are allowed to play. I'm also fine with a little bit of vegging out and doing something that's mindless but if that's all that you're doing on your phone, it may be time to take a step back because you absolutely are addicted. Which is the case for our kids.

Far be it for me to tell you how to live your life. There are much worse things to be addicted to. This addiction has trickled down into our kids though and enough is enough. Our plan is to really buckle down on what they are doing on their tablets. Once their screen time is up for the day then they need to find something else to do. DIY projects are fun and keep kids from being bored. Drawing, writing stories, playing pretend, or board and card games. It just has to be something that actually engages their brains!

I don't really know what the innovation of electronics is going to do to the next generation and I hope it doesn't end up harmful for them. I did play a lot of video games growing up and I turned out normal...right? Regardless I don't want to risk it.

So I say DEATH TO SCREEN TIME.

Hope to see y'all on the mats!
