Is your Jiu Jitsu for you ?

I have a pretty unique style when it comes to Jiu Jitsu. Regardless of if I have the Gi strapped on or not my style is not traditional. I am a smaller female and I tend to have to be sneaky to get anything on my opponents. My nickname is macaquinha (little monkey) because I tend to come at you fast. It also tends to look like I'm climbing all over people. Not really sure specifically why people call me that but I have heard the reference a few times now and the nickname has stuck.

I also LOOOOVVVE me some wristlocks. I am not sure what draws each of us to a move but if you have spent even a little time on the mats you understand the feeling. When you see a move and your heart just bursts, and your eyes get all big, and you get a weird and possibly creepy smile across your face. The feeling like you just won the lottery. This is how wristlocks make me feel. It's not just wristlocks, there are a lot of things that light my eyes up when it comes to Jiu Jitsu but they are rarely traditional. Not gonna lie the RNC was probably the first move that I fell in love with and I still love it.

I have people coach me through our rolls sometimes, telling me to do this escape or that one.I absolutely hate being coached during a roll. If I ask okay, if not you have no idea what my goal is so please keep your "help" to yourself until the end. I most often don't want the basic back escape, I want to break your ankles from there (not really). I probably don't care that you got that americana because I plan on wristlocking you from there. I get people who tell me they would rather let their wrist break than tap to a wristlock, well that's on you buddy. To each their own, it doesn't make my wristlocks any less fun.

I never started Jiu Jitsu for self defense reasons. I started Jiu Jitsu to find something for myself. To keep myself active and to learn a new skill. I do Jiu Jitsu because it's fun. That is really it. The second someone else tries to make me conform to their journey of Jiu Jitsu is the second that love will die.

Do Jiu Jitsu for you. Whatever your reasons may be make sure its your own reason. Find what sparks your heart. What makes your eyes light up. What makes you love Jiu Jitsu. Find that and don't let anyone take it from you. This is YOUR game. This is your STYLE.

Hope to see you on the mats, and I hope when I do I see the light in your eyes.
